Sales fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 863,000 last month, the Commerce Department reported Tuesday. That followed a revised sales pace of 917,000 in March, down from the initially reported 1.021 million sales. April’s figure is 5.9 percent lower than the revised March figure and 15.5 percent lower than the preliminary number.
